Arlington
in northern Snohomish County is approximately 10 miles north of the city of Everett and 41 miles north of the Seattle. As of the 2000 census, the population of Arlington was 11,713. Arlington has a small town atmosphere in a rural setting, but it is conveniently located near larger metropolitan areas. The Arlington Municipal Airport is home of the annual Northwest EAA Fly-In. The Stillaguamish Valley Pioneer Museum preserves artifacts of the North and South Forks of the Stillaguamish River Valley. The museum houses various items including household, logging, dairy, military, railroad, sports, medical, education, transportation, music and thousands of old black and white photos. The Flying Heritage Collection is a premier aviation attraction. Every July, The Arlington Festival and Frontier Days include activities such as fireworks, Fourth of July parade, kiddies parade, pancake breakfast, duck dash, Tug-o-war and an auction. There are other recreational activities available in Arlington, among these include mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding.

The Outer Banks weather is generally mild year round with abundant sunshine. Summer precipitation is the greatest and also the most variable, occurring mostly with thunderstorms. Daily showers are not uncommon, but neither are periods of one to two weeks without rain. Autumn is the driest season. Summer air temperatures are generally cooler along the immediate coastline than even just a few miles inland. The Gulf Stream has some direct effect on winter weather, especially on the immediate coast. Though it lies some 50 miles offshore, warm water eddies spin off from the Gulf Stream and helps moderate the winter air temperatures along the Outer Banks. Occasionally the Gulf Stream clashes with the cold Labrador Current, causing unstable conditions. Tropical hurricanes come close enough to influence North Carolina weather about twice in an average year.
