Lake-Ozette is the third largest natural lake in the state of Washington, located within the northern boundary of the Olympic National Park's coastal strip. It ranks in size only behind Lake Chelan and Lake Washington. There are three islands on Lake Ozette; Tivoli Island, Garden Island and Baby Island. The lake is drained by the Ozette River in the north end and the small town of Ozette lies at the north end of the lake. The little town of Ozette is the westernmost populated area in the contiguous United States and is at the location of an important archeological site of the Makah people. Lake Ozette is in a remote area, nestled in dense forest just a few miles from the Pacific Coast. The lake remains virtually untouched and is at the head for many hiking trails in the area. The pristine land is also great for birding for loons, owls, kingfishers to thrushes. Hiking along the coast will result in seeing sea otters, sea lions and seals. There is a resort located near Lake Ozette that offers campsites and cabins, showers, a general store and a deli. Other activities in the Lake Ozette area include boating, canoeing, fishing, and kayaking. It's a laid back, peaceful area full of natural wonders.

Lake Ozette Weather & Climate

Northwest Washington has summers that are cool and comparatively dry and winters are mild, wet and cloudy. During July and August, the driest months, it is not unusual for two to four weeks to pass with only a few showers; however, in December and January, the wettest months, precipitation is frequently recorded on 20 to 25 days or more each month. Snowfall is light in the lower elevations and heavy in the mountains. During the wet season, rainfall is usually light to moderate and continuous over a period of time rather than heavy downpours for brief periods. During the latter half of the summer and early fall, the lower valleys are sometimes filled with fog or low clouds until noon, while at the same time, the higher elevations are sunny.
