La-Push
is a small community located along the Quileute River on the shores of the Pacific Ocean. It's home to the Quileute Native American Tribe and is well known for its whale-watching, ocean fishing and natural beauty. The name La Push is a variation of the French "la bouche," meaning "mouth," for its location at the mouth of the river. La Push is surrounded by the lush forests of the Olympic Peninsula and is almost an island unto itself. The town is inhabited almost exclusively by the descendants of the ancient Quileute Indian tribe, which is said to have lived in this part of Washington for thousands of years. The town, local resort and fishing harbor are managed by the Quileute tribe. There are several fishing charter services in La Push, and Rialto Beach, which is part of Olympic National Park, lies just north of town. (Please be aware that pets are allowed only on certain national park beaches.) The Flattery Rocks National Wildlife Refuge, which hugs the northwest coastline of the peninsula, is more than 100 miles long and is home to millions of birds during migration. La Push also offers oceanfront resorts, a seafood company, fish hatchery and a marina. The popular Quileute Days takes place in July and features a tribal celebration of cultural heritage with a fireworks display, a traditional salmon bake, dancing and music, a horse show tournament, arts and craft display and food concessions.

La Push Weather & Climate

|
Northwest Washington has summers that are cool and comparatively dry and winters are mild, wet and cloudy. During July and August, the driest months, it is not unusual for two to four weeks to pass with only a few showers; however, in December and January, the wettest months, precipitation is frequently recorded on 20 to 25 days or more each month. Snowfall is light in the lower elevations and heavy in the mountains. During the wet season, rainfall is usually light to moderate and continuous over a period of time rather than heavy downpours for brief periods. During the latter half of the summer and early fall, the lower valleys are sometimes filled with fog or low clouds until noon, while at the same time, the higher elevations are sunny.
