Lake-Chelan
is a 55-mile long, narrow lake located in Chelan County in north-central Washington. It is the largest natural lake in the state. Nestled in the North Cascades National Forest, Lake Chelan is fed by the crystal clear streams from the Cascades and has a maximum depth of 1,486 feet, which also makes it the third deepest lake in the country. The city of Chelan sits at the southeast tip of the lake and at the northwest end is the town of Stehekin. Access to the far end of the lake is limited to boat, float plane, or hiking. Lake Chelan State Park lies along the southern shore of the lake, and the northern portion of the lake is protected by Lake Chelan National Recreation Area. Lake Chelan sits in an incredibly beautiful area where rugged snowcapped peaks rise to over 7,000 feet from the lakeshore and lush evergreens cover the mountainsides. Numerous other smaller lakes and waterways are nearby, including the majestic Columbia River, which is just four miles to the east. Recreational opportunities are endless, including swimming, boating, sailing, fishing, kayaking, water-skiing, and jet-skiing, parasailing, rafting, and wind surfing. Public boat launches can be found along Lake Chelan's south shore at both 25-Mile Creek and Lake Chelan State Parks, the north shore at Mill Bay Park and in Chelan at Riverwalk Park. Boats can also be launched on the Columbia River at Chelan Falls Park, Powerhouse Park, and Beebe Bridge Park.
