Lake-Cushman is a small community that lies along the shores of a lake of the same name in Mason County, west-central Washington. The town is also known simply as "Cushman" and is sometimes considered part of the town of Hoodsport. It also features a small state park called Hoodsport Trail State Park. Lake Cushman is a 4,010-acre lake on the north fork of the Skokomish River, nestled in the foothills of Mason County's Olympic National Park & Forest. Originally, the lake was a long, narrow broadening of the Skokomish River that was formed in a glacial trough and dammed by a terminal moraine from the last ice age. More recently, the lake was expanded after the construction of the Cushman Dam. It's now a popular recreational lake for fishing, boating, and kayaking. The Lake Cushman shore is lined with resorts and rental cabins, as well as thick stands of hemlock, fir and cedar trees. It's truly a breathtaking retreat. Nearby Olympic National Forest has over 200 miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding and biking. Trails vary in length and can be enjoyed year round. Camping is also available in the Lake Cushman area. There is a 9-hole golf course located at Lake Cushman, a winery with gift shop and tastings, and gaming at the nearby town of Shelton.

Lake Cushman Weather & Climate

Northwest Washington , near the Puget Sound and San Juan Islands, has a fairly temperate climate. The temperature of the salt water surrounding the islands doesn’t vary greatly throughout the seasons, so it helps cool the air surrounding the islands. Northwest Washington experiences frequent cloud cover, fog and drizzle. Misty morning will be followed by partial clearing and occasional showers. An umbrella always comes in handy. Evenings are usually warm with a light ocean breeze. Temperatures range from low 30s in winter to mid 80s in summer. Coastal conditions are generally much more harsh than those in the Puget Sound.
