Mount-Baker
, also known as Koma Kulshan or simply Kulshan, is an active, glaciated volcano, located in the Cascade Volcanic Arc and the North Cascades of Washington. It is the second-most active volcano in the range after Mount Saint Helens. Mount Baker is the youngest volcano in the Mount Baker volcanic field. The volume of snow and ice on Mount Baker is greater than that of all the other Cascades volcanoes (except Rainier) combined. It is also one of the snowiest places in the world; in 1999, Mount Baker Ski Area set the world record for recorded snowfall in a single season%u20141,140 inches. At 10,778 feet, Mount Baker is the third-highest mountain in Washington State and the sixth-highest in the Cascade Range, if Little Tahoma Peak, a subpeak of Mount Rainier, is not counted. Mount Baker is also now among the most-studied of the Cascades volcanoes. The Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest is one of the most visited forests in the country and contains not only the glacier-covered peaks, but spectacular mountain meadows and old-growth forests. Mount Baker is home to a popular wintertime ski area, which is closed in the summer season. However, the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest offers walking and hiking trails, camping, mountain biking and lots more.

Northwest Washington, near Olympic National Park, , is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the east by the Hood Canal and on the north by the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and the Olympic Peninsula is anchored by the Olympic Mountains. The region is divided into three basic regions: the Pacific coastline, the Olympic Mountains and the temperate rainforest. No other place in the United States can match its diversity in terrain and weather in such a compact geographic area. Therefore, weather in this region is very difficult to define. The coastal areas have mild weather year round with low coastal fog. Mount Olympus receives a large amount of snow. The rainforest receives annual precipitation of about 150 inches, making this the wettest area in the continental U.S. (the island of Kauai in the state of Hawaii gets more rain.)
