Renton
is a beautiful city located in King County in west-central Washington. It is situated about 13 miles southeast of Seattle and straddles the southeast shore of Lake Washington. As of April 2010, the estimated population of Renton was 86,230. The town was originally founded as a farming community. However, when it was incorporated in 1901, it had grown to be an important coal mining and timber processing town. The town's population boomed during World War II when Boeing built a factory there, which continues to be in operation today. The city's location on the shore of Lake Washington offers spectacular views of the lake, the Olympics, the Cascades and Mount Rainier. The Cedar River runs through the heart of downtown, adding to the natural beauty. Renton is known for its diverse shopping, arts and entertainment venues and impressive Antiques District. There are lots of fun things to do in the town, including beautiful parks for recreation, festivals and special events. Renton also boasts the highest number of restaurants per capita of any of the major cities in Washington, with choices ranging from fast food, to casual dining and local five-star restaurants. Other attractions include the Renton Civic Theater, the Renton IKEA Performing Arts Center , and boat cruises on Lake Washington from Southport.

Northwest Washington, near Olympic National Park, , is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the east by the Hood Canal and on the north by the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and the Olympic Peninsula is anchored by the Olympic Mountains. The region is divided into three basic regions: the Pacific coastline, the Olympic Mountains and the temperate rainforest. No other place in the United States can match its diversity in terrain and weather in such a compact geographic area. Therefore, weather in this region is very difficult to define. The coastal areas have mild weather year round with low coastal fog. Mount Olympus receives a large amount of snow. The rainforest receives annual precipitation of about 150 inches, making this the wettest area in the continental U.S. (the island of Kauai in the state of Hawaii gets more rain.)
