Issaquah
is located in King County, Washington and has a population of about 27,000 residents. Issaquah is an anglicized Native American word meaning "the sound of birds." Another version of the name is said to have come from the pioneers, who, being impressed with the multitude of wetland birds, called the area Squak Valley. When the next wave of settlers came and asked for the name of the area, the Natives told them, Is Squak. Forbes has ranked Issaquah as the second fastest-growing suburb in Washington. Issaquah was incorporated in 1892, originally a logging and mining town for the nearby Squak, Tiger and Cougar Mountain region. Today, the mountains, known as the "Issaquah Alps," offers unlimited opportunities for outdoor recreation such as hiking, mountain biking, fishing and rafting. Other attractions include a Saturday farmer's market, a zoological park, salmon hatchery, chocolate factory and operating trolleys. Issaquah is also home to the popular Salmon Days Festival, featuring a grand parade, tournaments, arts and crafts and live entertainment. Issaquah is located off the I-90 corridor just 16 miles east of Seattle.

Northwest Washington, near Olympic National Park, , is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the east by the Hood Canal and on the north by the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and the Olympic Peninsula is anchored by the Olympic Mountains. The region is divided into three basic regions: the Pacific coastline, the Olympic Mountains and the temperate rainforest. No other place in the United States can match its diversity in terrain and weather in such a compact geographic area. Therefore, weather in this region is very difficult to define. The coastal areas have mild weather year round with low coastal fog. Mount Olympus receives a large amount of snow. The rainforest receives annual precipitation of about 150 inches, making this the wettest area in the continental U.S. (the island of Kauai in the state of Hawaii gets more rain.)
