Tulalip
is the name of an Indian reservation located in Snohomish County in northwest Washington. The Tulalip Indian Reservation is located at Port Susan in western Snohomish County, adjacent to the border of the city of Marysville. The reservation has a land area mass of 35.3 square miles and as of the 2000 census, 9,246 individuals were living within its' boundaries. The largest community located within the reservation is Tulalip Bay, with a population of approximately 1,500. The Tulalip people settled onto this reservation land after signing the Point Elliott Treaty with the former Washington Territory on January 22, 1855. The reservation is the western half of the Marysville/Tulalip community, and the Tulalip Reservation lies west of Interstate 5. The city of Marysville's school district serves both the city and the reservation. Also, situated alongside Interstate 5 is the massive Tulalip Resort Casino, a 12-story luxury hotel and a 100-store outlet mall. The reservation is also home to Quil Ceda Village, a business park and municipality to provide jobs and tax income for the reservation.

Northwest Washington, near Olympic National Park, ,is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the east by the Hood Canal and on the north by the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and the Olympic Peninsula is anchored by the Olympic Mountains. The region is divided into three basic regions: the Pacific coastline, the Olympic Mountains and the temperate rainforest. No other place in the United States can match its diversity in terrain and weather in such a compact geographic area. Therefore, weather in this region is very difficult to define. The coastal areas have mild weather year round with low coastal fog. Mount Olympus receives a large amount of snow. The rainforest receives annual precipitation of about 150 inches, making this the wettest area in the continental U.S. (the island of Kauai in the state of Hawaii gets more rain.)
