Port-Ludlow
is a residential and recreational community located in Jefferson County in northwestern Washington. As of the 2000 census, the population was 1,968. Port Ludlow is also the name of the marine inlet on which the community is located. To avoid confusion, the inlet is sometimes called Port Ludlow Bay. In 1960, following the completion of the nearby Hood Canal Bridge, Port Ludlow became the site of resorts and planned communities, attracting those who were retired, buying vacation homes, or those needing a more convenient commute to the east side of Puget Sound. Port Ludlows location and marina facilities make it a popular port for leisure craft sailing between Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands. Port Ludlow Marina is a 300 slip marina and includes a fuel dock, a pump-out, and a store with groceries, beer, wine, gifts and kayak, boat and bicycle rentals. Other things to do in Port Ludlow include golf, hiking along wooded trails, clam and oyster digs, fishing, windsurfing and scenic drives through the countryside. Due to the mountainous barrier within Jefferson County, there is no road lying entirely within the county that connects the eastern and western parts. The most direct land route between the two ends of the county involves a drive of approximately 100 miles along U.S. Route 101 through neighboring Clallam County.

Northwest Washington has summers that are cool and comparatively dry and winters are mild, wet and cloudy. During July and August, the driest months, it is not unusual for two to four weeks to pass with only a few showers; however, in December and January, the wettest months, precipitation is frequently recorded on 20 to 25 days or more each month. Snowfall is light in the lower elevations and heavy in the mountains. During the wet season, rainfall is usually light to moderate and continuous over a period of time rather than heavy downpours for brief periods. During the latter half of the summer and early fall, the lower valleys are sometimes filled with fog or low clouds until noon, while at the same time, the higher elevations are sunny.
