Kingston
is a small, picturesque community located in Kitsap County in northwest Washington. It's located along the shores of Apple Tree Cover and the Puget Sound. As of the 2000 census, the population was 1,611 residents. Kingston is home to a major Washington state ferries terminal linking it to Edmonds, Washington. Founded in 1853, the community was originally known as Apple Tree Cover. It was a lumber town until the mill closed in the early 20th century. Now, it is known as the Little City by the Sea, and is considered the northern gateway to the Olympic Peninsula and social and economic center of the north end of the Kitsap Peninsula. Kingston features a unique shopping district with quaint shops, cozy cafes and a wonderful waterfront ambiance. The town hosts a variety of events during the year, including a popular Farmers Market, held on Saturdays mid-April to mid-October at the Port of Kingston Marina Park, next to the ferry dock. A Quiet Place Park offers 9.3 acres with walking trails, nature-related activities for children, birdwatching and eco and nature walks. The Port of Kingston Marina has 40 guest slips and shower & laundry facilities. The marina is within walking distance of shops and restaurants.

Northwest Washington , near the Puget Sound and San Juan Islands, has a fairly temperate climate. The temperature of the salt water surrounding the islands doesnft vary greatly throughout the seasons, so it helps cool the air surrounding the islands. Northwest Washington experiences frequent cloud cover, fog and drizzle. Misty morning will be followed by partial clearing and occasional showers. An umbrella always comes in handy. Evenings are usually warm with a light ocean breeze. Temperatures range from low 30s in winter to mid 80s in summer. Coastal conditions are generally much more harsh than those in the Puget Sound.
