Mossyrock
is a small, picturesque town located in Lewis County in southwest Washington. As of 2007, the population was 2,324 residents. The city began as a trading post named Mossy Rock in 1852, after a 200-foot high moss-covered rock at the east end of Klickitat Prairie. The town was officially incorporated in 1948. Mossyrock is located twenty-one miles east of the I-5 Interstate on Highway 12. It's nestled in between scenic Rife Lake to its east and Mayfield Lake to its west along the green rolling forested foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range. Mossyrock offers lots of outdoor recreation possibilities, such as boating, water skiing, and fishing on its lakes. In the fall many hunters come for deer and elk in the surrounding foothills of Mount Rainier and Mount Saint Helens. In the winter snow skiers can ski at White Pass Ski Resort, sixty-four miles to the east of Mossyrock. The area is also surrounded by Christmas tree farms and blueberry farms, and also gorgeous tulip bulb farms that burst forth in color come spring. The town of Mossyrock hosts the annual Blueberry Festival, usually held each August. The festival is a fun family affair with lots of entertainment, games, parade and of course, everything blueberry!

Southwest Washington is classified as having a dry-summer subtropical climate, with certain key exceptions. High pressures east of the Cascade Range create something of a venturi effect, leading to cold east winds down the Columbia River Gorge. Unsheltered by the Willamette Valley, this region has seen colder temperatures, including "silver thaw" storms where freezing rain cakes limbs and power lines. Rainfall occurs frequently throughout the fall, winter, and spring, but ceases around the middle of June, with dry and warm weather lasting through September. Heavy snowfalls are infrequent and snow often falls and doesn't stick, with major snowstorms only occurring every 2-4 years. Periodic floods are possible.
