Sequim
is a small city located in Clallam County in northwest Washington. As of 2007, the estimated population was 5,951. It is situated along the Dungeness River at the base of the Olympic Mountains. The city has been increasing in population in recent years due to the influx of retirees from the Puget Sound region and California. Due to the ocean fog and cool breezes from the Juan de Fuca Strait, Sequim's environment is dominated by lush forests of Douglas-fir and western red cedar, big leaf maple, Pacific madrone and red alder. The city and surrounding area is also well known for the commercial growth of lavender. Known as the "Lavender Capital of North America," Sequim's lavender is rivaled only in France. A Lavender Festival is held each year, usually in July. Other attractions include the Museum and Arts Center, the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge and the Sequim Open Aire Market. To the east of town on Highway 101 is Sequim Bay, a four-mile long inlet from the Straits of Juan de Fuca. Along the western stretch is the Sequim Bay State Park and the John Wayne Marina. The land for the latter was bequeathed by the movie actor, John Wayne, and is a popular bird watching area. Sequim has antiques, art galleries, and four-star restaurants, roadside stands, pick your own lavender or berries (Julia Child once said the best berries in the world were grown in this region.) You can go clamming, biking, kayaking, or play golf on one of three lush golf courses. It's no wonder some consider the Sequim region to be the most beautiful in the country.

Sequim Weather & Climate
Northwest Washington has summers that are cool and comparatively dry and winters are mild, wet and cloudy. During July and August, the driest months, it is not unusual for two to four weeks to pass with only a few showers; however, in December and January, the wettest months, precipitation is frequently recorded on 20 to 25 days or more each month. Snowfall is light in the lower elevations and heavy in the mountains. During the wet season, rainfall is usually light to moderate and continuous over a period of time rather than heavy downpours for brief periods. During the latter half of the summer and early fall, the lower valleys are sometimes filled with fog or low clouds until noon, while at the same time, the higher elevations are sunny.
