Hat-Island
also called Godney Island, is located in Puget Sound in Snohomish County in northwest Washington. The island lies in Possession Sound between the mainland city of Everett, Washington and the southern part of Whidbey Island. Hat Island has a land area of 436.8 acres and a population of 26 people as of the 2000 census. Hat Island is a private island, only about 1.5 miles long by a .5 mile wide, and there are approximately 260 homes on the island. Hat Island offers a marina, a 9-hole golf course, breathtaking scenery, a yacht and golf club, and beaches for clamming, crabbing, fishing or beachcombing. In addition, Hat Island has its own passenger ferry, barge, and bus. Since Hat Island is a private island, with roads maintained by the Hat Island Community, cars on the island do not have to have state license plates. Because the island is small and without stores, cars usually just transport people from the ferry to their homes. The Puget Sound region is one of the most fascinating, complex estuarine systems in the U.S. The Puget Sound is not just a body of water but also a general region centered around the sound including the Seattle metropolitan area, which is home to approximately 3.4 million people. Therefore, although Hat Island is small, it's near all the exciting attractions, dining and shopping options the city of Seattle has to offer.

Northwest Washington , near the Puget Sound and San Juan Islands, has a fairly temperate climate. The temperature of the salt water surrounding the islands doesnft vary greatly throughout the seasons, so it helps cool the air surrounding the San Juan islands. Northwest Washington experiences frequent cloud cover, fog and drizzle. Misty morning will be followed by partial clearing and occasional showers. An umbrella always comes in handy. Evenings are usually warm with a light ocean breeze. Temperatures range from low 30s in winter to mid 80s in summer. Coastal conditions are generally much more harsh than those in the Puget Sound.
