Snoqualmie-Pass is the name of a mountain pass that carries Interstate 90 through the Cascade Range in the state of Washington. The pass summit is at an elevation of 3,022 feet and is on the border of Kittitas and King Counties. Snoqualmie Pass is also the name of a census-designated place located at the summit. The community has a population of about 150 year-round residents. The area consists of many mountain chalets that are seasonally occupied mainly by residents of the Seattle. Winter sports are the main draw to Snoqualmie Pass, but outdoor recreation is available year round. The vertical drop ranges from 2,280 feet to 765 feet. The four base areas have a total of 19 chair lifts and 10 surface lifts. The resort at Snoqualmie Pass is open seven days a week, with night operations 6 nights per week. The Pacific Crest Trail crosses Snoqualmie Pass and a variety of other trails are also available for hiking and climbing in the summer, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing during the winter. Snowmobiling is also popular during the winter months just east of the pass. In the summer and fall, the area is popular with hang gliders and paragliders along the ridge and landing at Lake Keechelus. The Summit at Snoqualmie Pass is the closest ski area to Seattle, and is easily accessible on Interstate 90.
