Long-Beach
is a small city in Pacific County on the southwest coast of Washington. As of the 2000 census, the population was 1,283 residents. Long Beach is home to the Northwestern pop cultural phenomenon Jake the Alligator Man. The town of Long Beach was named one of "America's Favorite Beach Towns," by Forbes Traveler.com and voted "Best Beach" by viewers of Seattle's KING-5 TV. The town's streets are lined with colorful shops, seafood restaurants, museums and comfortable lodging. Part of Long Beach Peninsula, the town has an expansive beach and also offers a national park, two historic lighthouses, oyster farms, cranberry bogs and fabulous restaurants. Long Beach began when Henry Harrison Tinker bought a land claim from Charles E. Reed in 1880, platted a town and called it Tinkerville. Later, the name was changed and Long Beach was officially incorporated in 1922. Things to do in the area include swimming, clamming, and surfing, hiking, bicycling, horseback riding and golf. You can charter a boat in Long Beach for fishing or a birding trip, or kayak on the Columbia River. Long Beach is also home to the World Kite Museum & Hall of Fame and the Cranberry Museum & Demonstration Farm. You will also find spas in Long Beach and a sustainable living center and organic farm that offers yoga classes.

Long Beach Weather & Climate

Oregon's North Coast has the least sunshine of any area in the state but the gorgeous scenery more than makes up for the lack of sunshine. The northwest region is a heavily timbered area with lots of rainfall much of the year, resulting in lush pastures and rich farmland. Along the coast, the average annual snowfall is only one to three inches, with many years in which there is no measurable amount at all. Thunderstorms can occur in the valleys, but are usually not severe. Major flooding occurs in the coastal streams as a result of several days of moderate to heavy rain. Melting of a heavy snow pack on the Coast Range and/or the Cascades greatly increases the flood potential. The only other severe weather conditions on the Oregon coast are hailstorms, which are generally light and cover very small areas, and occasional high winds.
