University-Place
is a city of approximately 30,000 in Pierce County in south-central Washington. The "new" city with the rich history got its' name in the 1800s when the University of Puget Sound, a private liberal-arts college in Tacoma, purchased land along the primary north-south route of Grandview Drive and proposed to build a private Methodist college. Financial worries and other concerns cancelled the plans, and the school ended up selling the land back to the city for about $11,000. However, the name stuck and the area became known as "the university place." University Place remained an unincorporated part of Pierce County until the City of University Place was formed on August 31, 1995. The community lies along the waterfront of Puget Sound and is largely suburban residential with some businesses and home to the Charles Wright Academy. A new, Scottish links-style golf course recently opened in University Place. It has received favorable reviews and is set to host the 2015 U.S. Open. The region surrounding the town is rich in natural beauty and outdoor recreation such as rafting and kayaking, hiking, biking, fishing, boating and sailing. It's just a short drive to the museums, restaurants, shopping and other attractions of the city of Tacoma.

Northwest Washington , near the Puget Sound and San Juan Islands, has a fairly temperate climate. The temperature of the salt water surrounding the islands doesnft vary greatly throughout the seasons, so it helps cool the air surrounding the islands. Northwest Washington experiences frequent cloud cover, fog and drizzle. Misty morning will be followed by partial clearing and occasional showers. An umbrella always comes in handy. Evenings are usually warm with a light ocean breeze. Temperatures range from low 30s in winter to mid 80s in summer. Coastal conditions are generally much more harsh than those in the Puget Sound.
